On the 22nd June, JETAA Auckland committee members and volunteers were invited to come together to spend the afternoon with the latest cohort departing in August. Experiences were shared, information was imparted, and (some) questions were answered by a variety of alumni members from various walks of life!
After a quick introduction and a mandatory icebreaker (to get them all used to having to participate in icebreakers!), we moved on to present on topics such as recommendations on what and what not to pack, establishing job requirements and understanding the expectations that accompany it, general healthcare in Japan, and what it’s like to live and work in Japan.
Some of our volunteers also spoke about their own personal experiences on JET, sharing a glimpse of the rollercoaster ride that awaits them once they land in Japan.
After we wrapped up the afternoon, we moved on to a more casual and relaxed setting, sharing a whole lot of pizza while questions were flying back and forth. The excitement and nervous anticipation was palpable in the room as everyone got a chance to unwind and really ask about all the nitty gritty.
We hope that the afternoon portion of their long Q&A day was helpful and reassuring, that we were able to address or alleviate some concerns, and that we are here to support them in a successful grassroots cultural exchange 😉
If this is something that you’d love to be a part of, please keep an eye out on our Facebook group page where we will post a call out for volunteers, usually between April - May for this annual June event. If you’re worried you may forget by then, feel free to drop us a line via email to register your interest so that we can reach out to you closer to the time!
